The Great Turning Team is offering a new kind of gap year experience.
Instead of traveling the globe, we explore our inner landscapes.
Instead of spending time in a foreign country, we commit to doing transformational work in our local communities.
Now enrolling for the Contemplative and Community Path programs.
At The Great Turning Team, we offer a new model of learning that emphasizes care for oneself, one another, and the Earth. We aim to enforce transformational change within ourselves and our societies by working one-one-one with young people who want to make a beneficial difference in their local communities.
Do you want to take time to learn more about yourself?
Are you interested in using practices to intentionally explore your inner landscape?
Take time to pause and discover what makes you thrive?
Are you committed to building personal resiliency to do the “outer” work necessary to rebuild our local communities?
Our work is three-fold:
(1) To help students develop an understanding of their unique interests, passions, and strengths through individualized contemplative practices, (2) To promote resiliency and active hope in the face of change and uncertainty, (3) To engage in community projects and develop a network of mutual support while enhancing nature-based solutions.
Contemplative practices vary greatly, but they all have an inward focus that concentrates attention on the present experience. This awareness creates opportunities for greater connection and insight. We will engage with a variety of contemplative practices to find the ones that best fit you.

Are our programs a good fit for your gap year vision? Apply now and let's find out!
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from a broad spectrum of people. Applicants will receive equal consideration and treatment without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, veteran status, age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identification, or disability.
Our inspiration for creating the Great Turning Team comes from the book Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone. Macy and Johnstone see the importance of this moment in our human history. We agree that it is time to fully engage ourselves in the “Great Turning” -an epic transition "towards a life-sustaining society committed to the healing and recovery of our world.”
Yet maintaining hope and continued action is not for the faint-hearted.
So, we are here to assist and guide you.
We look forward to working with you as we collectively move towards creating a more sane, just, and balanced world.
Let's chat to see if our Gap Year Programs will meet your needs, and if you are a good fit for our programs! Please set up a 30-minute meeting with our founder Laura Hill here!
"What a time to be alive, in this great turning we shall learn to lead in love"
We are committed to creating a life-sustaining society devoted to personal and collective healing and we want to ensure this growth opportunity is not bound by financial constraint. All of our proceeds will go directly to Scholarship Funding, as financial assistance toward our programs. We thank you for your support.
